The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.” – G.K. Chesterton

Things you notice when travelling alone..

.. especially when you're a lone, young female traveller, and all the flight attendants in the economy class on your plane are males. These things had never happened before for me (either one or both combined), so it was an interesting experience.

[Oh, and Rob's server is having disk issues so the photos on my blog will be unavailable indefinitely. That also means I can't check my bobturf email account, so those trying to contact me, please email my yahoo account. Hopefully that will get resolved soon.]

  1. I guess many weren't observant enough to notice any rings on your fingers...?
    Enlighten us about your experience!!

  2. Haha, let's just say that there was extra attention, lengthy friendly chats, and extra chocolates. Only from the Asian flight attendants though - the only non-Asian flight attendant was in his mid-40s and was probably the only one married with kids at home. The extra attention was nice, I welcomed the chats since it was getting a bit lonely, and I wasn't gonna say no to the extra treats!

  3. Hehe, well funny thing was that when I chatted to one of the flight attendants soon after boarding the plane, the mention of my husband came up (to which he responded, "You're married? You can't be more than 18!" - this guy sure knows how to flatter a girl who is feeling a quarter of a century old) but that didn't stop the extra attention, more chats and the yummy chocolates :)
I have noticed that not many guys take much notice of whether there are any rings on my ring finger. Perhaps because so many girls these days wear so much bling rings on all fingers that the meaning of ring finger is not significant.

  4. You don't look 25, put it that way Jean. And sometimes I get the feeling like you're not acting 25 either...

  5. Hm, I'm wondering what you mean by sometimes I'm not acting 25, whether it's a good or bad thing. Most of my life people think I'm older than I am, so it's nice when I get the rare comment that I look younger than my age. Then again, I don't like to come across as immature.

  6. I didn't say immature... but playing the baby racing game in Timezone? Hmm...

  7. The baby game was not my idea! It was Honey's. She's the Timezone expert. (Hehe, in fact I have rarely stepped inside Timezone except when other people want to.) Anyway I'm glad someone thinks I act younger than my age coz too many people think I'm too serious and I was worried that it was ageing me.

  8. *eyes you suspiciously* Suuuuure, Honey's idea. How convenient to have a younger sister as a scapegoat. :D

  9. IIRC, you played the game too. And you two are not much younger than me :P
