The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.” – G.K. Chesterton

All good things come in threes...

... or do they? With our 3 years' just gone, I would like to believe that gaining 3kgs in a mere 3 weeks is not a bad thing! I suppose it didn't help at all that we ate at three restaurants (there's the three again!) in a span of four days last weekend - Malaysian, Mexican and French food aren't exactly the healthiest cuisines! I guess I can no longer eat what I want without gaining weight like I used to when my body ran on a metabolism of someone who cycled more than 16km a few times a week for transport. Frankly, I am quite afraid of going back to the way I was a few years ago, but I'm not about to starve myself - there are still so many restaurants to try! Besides, starving makes no sense for a foodie, especially one whose mood depends on her blood sugar level. Instead I try to hit the fitness room regularly for both weight training and cardio. I'm hoping to have good gains with my weight training before we leave NYC in a month's time.

Oh, the woes of a foodie...

  1. *sigh* tell me about it. Then again, I weigh about 40 kg more than when I was in high school, largely from gaining a bit of weight and also bulking up a LOT compared to high school...
... but then again, your sister's delicious cooking isn't helping me in any way either. That and having been sick for the last 3 months with various things, preventing me from going to the gym has had an adverse effect on any gym work or exercise. I'm hoping good things come in 3's cos if it does, it will mean for the first time since I've been going out with Honey I'll finally be at 100% health :)

  2. I wish you better health. Eat up loads of fruits and vegs - these (combined with exercise) are what kept me from getting sick for the past couple of years (and I used to get sick a few times a year before that). And when I say loads, I mean loads - I like to fill up half our dinner plates with veges. And I eat two to three pieces of fruits everyday.
Hopefully soon you'll be able to get back into your usual gym routine. I hate going to the gym, yet I think I'm a gym addict (I like the results, hate the process).
Honey cooks? I mean, of course she does, but I don't think I've ever eaten any meals she prepared. I know she makes yummy sweets though..

  3. Yeah, thanks for that. I'm getting better... slowly. Persistant cough, but that's about it.
I was perfectly healthy almost from when I moved out last year (I was sick when Tash went away, but that was it) and then I was healthy for ages... it was only after I met your sister that I started to get sick :(... (that's a coincidence :P)
I'm going to start going to the gym again as of tonight... I sleep better when I do and I really struggle to sleep when I don't. Going to the gym is like doing anything else for me (anything "fun" at least)... hard to motivate myself to do it, but I know I'll feel better once I'm there and I'll be better off for doing it.
And Honey's cooking is delicious... somewhat appropriately, she made me honey chicken... ignoring the bad joke, it was delicious :P

  4. Talked to Hon this morning, and she said she recently joined the gym for a 1 year membership - I'm glad that your good influence is rubbing off on her.. :)

  5. Possibly, possibly. There is a difference to having a membership and actually going though. Don't worry, I will drag her to the gym, kicking and screaming if I have to...
